Instead of using a column of 10 daily newspapers, why not the software for small businesses like Quickbooks? Is this the end of the year, late May, as more than 10 categories that you could cause problems. QuickBooks comes with pre-defined general categories and you can add more than you might need, and you can always add, without changing its accounting book at all.
